Minister of Higher education and Training Naledi Pandor is set to be awarded a PhD in education on Tuesday afternoon. The degree will be conferred by the University of Pretoria. Pandor said the decision to return to studying was “nerve-wracking”.
Pandor added that she sometimes felt out of place, especially among much younger and more confident students, but she said she wanted the degree so much that she worked through it. She added that she chose to study at University of Pretoria because she had been told that it had a good education programme and a solid team. Pandor said the University of Pretoria was best for her, considering her busy schedule working for the government, according to The Sowetan.
The minister also said that she chose to study education further because she is interested in the field and its is her line of work, pointing out that she was a schoolteacher by training before entering government. Pandor also mentioned that juggling her work and her studies had been challenging and required careful planning to pull off.
She said she had to sacrifice things such as time with friends and family in order to achieve her goal. She acknowledged that some areas of her life were ‘neglected’ in the process. Enjoyed reading our story?
